Los Alamos National Laboratory Technology Applications Research Technician 3 (Research Tec 3) in Los Alamos, New Mexico

What You Will Do

The Technology Applications Group (A-3) is seeking an experienced Technician 3 to join our dynamic team! As a Technician 3 you will contribute to a broad range of hands-on project objectives. The Technology Applications Group uses a broad range of engineering and scientific expertise to support nuclear counter proliferation (NCP), nuclear counter terrorism (NCT), nuclear emergency response (ER) missions, defense, intelligence, and emerging technologies. To enable rapid development and response for our customers, we maintain several facilities where fabrication, mechanical and electrical assembly, testing, and validation take place. The selected individual/s will be support Engineers and Technologists through all phases development.

What You Need

Minimum Job Requirements:

Technical Knowledge: Knowledge in one or more of the following areas: vacuum equipment operation, pressure system operation, welding, mechanical assembly, leak testing, equipment troubleshooting or equipment maintenance

Tools and Equipment : Demonstrated experience utilizing power tools and equipment

Collaboration & Teaming: Ability to work effectively, conscientiously and professionally in a high-performance team environment that exhibits collaborative behavior

Safety and Security: Proven knowledge and implementation of required safety practices for work assignments. Demonstrated experience performing non-routine tasks that require exercising independent judgement. Will maintain all required safety and security training and make safety and security an integral part of each task.

Education/Experience : Position requires an Associate's Degree and 3 years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience contributing to hazard identification while drafting authorizing work documents, detailed operating procedures or other work planning documents

  • Experience working with electrical components that are part of a unique assembly or diagnostic suite

  • Experience working with classified material

  • Experience operating heavy equipment (Cranes, Forklifts, etc…)

  • Active Q clearance

Location: This position will be physically located in Los Alamos, NM.

Position commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. Additional Details

Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2 . Please note that this requirement applies only to citizens of the United States. Foreign nationals are subject to a similar requirement under DOE Order 142.3A.

Clearance: Q/SCI (Position will be cleared to this level). Applicants selected will be subject to a Federal background investigation and must meet eligibility requirements

  • for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance which requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon position, additional authorization to access nuclear weapons information may be required that may or may not be available to dual citizens depending upon the circumstances.

  • Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. SeeDOE Order 472.2 for additional information.

New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing.

Regular position: Term status Laboratory employees applying for regular-status positions are converted to regular status.

Internal Applicants: Regular appointment employees who have served the required period of continuous service in their current position are eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. If an employee has not served the required period of continuous service, they may only apply for Laboratory jobs with the documented approval of their Division Leader.
