Los Alamos National Laboratory Team Lead Building Manager 3 (Building Manager 3) in Los Alamos, New Mexico

What You Will Do

Join our highly motivated Facility Operations Group! The Weapons Facilities Operations, High Explosives (WFO-HE) Group is seeking a Building Manager 3 to serve in a leadership role and to be a resource for other Building Managers. You will also provide oversite of operations within the assigned building portfolio. You will be responsible for all activities related to facility operations, including the execution of maintenance activities, programmatic activities and coordinate communication with facility tenants. You will focus on supporting the needs of the Associate Laboratory Directorate for Weapons Engineering (ALDW) customers by maintaining safe and reliable facilities and systems.

In this role, you will implement conduct of operations and support conduct of maintenance and conduct of engineering practices. You will be responsible for Building Manager oversight of all aspects of facility work from conceptual scope development, through work execution and implementation of proper configuration management. You will provide guidance, development and mentorship to WFO’s team of Building Managers in performing their role.You will serve as a FOD Designee for Integrated Safety Management (ISM) related functions including but not limited to maintenance, projects, construction activities and subcontracted work activities.

This posting is under the Associate Laboratory Directorate for Weapons Engineering (ALDW).

What You Need

Minimum Job Requirements:

Leadership Experience

Demonstrated ability to serve in a lead role within an operationally-disciplined organization. Demonstrated ability to provide mentorship to less experienced personnel.

Facility Operations Experience

Demonstrated experience and ability to oversee facility operational and maintenance activities, to include coordination with facility tenants to minimize impacts to their operations. Demonstrated facility operations experience, including mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, HVAC/refrigeration, conveyance and Building Automation System (BAS) systems. Demonstrated experience interfacing with engineers to maintain appropriate facility configuration/technical baseline management, ensure safe and efficient operation of building systems, identifying abnormal operating conditions and development of corrective actions.

Work Management

Professional knowledge of ISM principles in a professional setting. Expert-level understanding of hazardous-energy control, including Lock-Out Tag-Out application practices and configuration control. Demonstrated knowledge in hazard classification of work requests. Expert-level understanding of identification and development of scope of work

Process Improvement

Demonstrated experience leading process improvement initiatives with evidence of successful outcomes. Demonstrated ability to maintain a Facility Health Report and communicate facility conditions to key stakeholders for funding consideration and facility reinvestment/recapitalization.

Software Knowledge

Experience using Microsoft Excel and computerized maintenance management/work control software to create, track, update, analyze, and develop reports for work within assigned facilities.

Education/Experience: Position requires a Bachelor's Degree in an Engineering or related technical discipline and 6 years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of related experience and education.

At this level, additional training, certifications and/or education may be desirable (Facility Management Professional Certification, Certified Maintenance and Reliability Technician, Lean Methods)

Desired Qualifications:

  • Working knowledge of project management principles

  • Basic understanding of statistical methods

  • Demonstrated experience working in hazardous environments

Location: This position will be physically located in Los Alamos, NM.

Additional Details

Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2 . Please note that this requirement applies only to citizens of the United States. Foreign nationals are subject to a similar requirement under DOE Order 142.3A.

Clearance: Q (Position will be cleared to this level). Applicants selected will be subject to a Federal background investigation and must meet eligibility requirements

  • for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance which requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon position, additional authorization to access nuclear weapons information may be required that may or may not be available to dual citizens depending upon the circumstances.

  • Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. SeeDOE Order 472.2 for additional information.

New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing.

Regular position: Term status Laboratory employees applying for regular-status positions are converted to regular status.
