Los Alamos National Laboratory System Analyst 1/2 in Los Alamos, New Mexico

What You Will Do

Come join our team! SAE provides software development and COTS application implementation and support services for the Lab. Our mission is to “deliver reliable, secure and cost effective software and applications that meet business and operational needs in support of the LANL mission”. We collaborate closely with our customers to develop solutions and support business functions across the Lab. There are approximately 175 employees in the division who are primarily web developers, software developers, database administrators, system analysts, software quality management specialists and students.

The selected candidate will work as a System Analyst on the Electronic Document and Records Management System (EDRMS) and Approve (Document Review System) to support the maintenance and enhancement of these systems. EDRMS is a large and complex system composed of both custom applications and Commercial Off the Shelf Software (COTS). Approve is another COTS application supported by the team that utilizes workflow engine to make review and approval of electronic documents easy and efficient. Functional customers continue to request enhancements, configuration changes, etc. Analyst work is required to ensure that requirements and documentation are being kept up to date for the system.

This position will be filled at either the System Analyst 1 or 2 level, depending on the skills of the selected candidate. Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if the candidate is hired at the higher level.

System Analyst 1 ($62,800-$99,800)

Helps to analyze complex business problems to be solved with automated systems and assists with technical expertise in identifying, evaluating and developing systems and procedures that are cost effective and meet user requirements. System Analyst 1 configures application settings and options, executes testing, and creates specifications for systems to meet business requirements.

System Analyst 2 ($72,400 - $122,900)

In addition to the duties outlined above, the System Analyst 2 will be required to work on unusually significant, unique or complex issues and provide solutions that are highly creative. System Analyst 2 will be developing testing plans of a system and all of its components, utilizing a programming or scripting language to clean up data or automate tasks, responsible for developing automating testing of systems, and incumbent is responsible for designing details of automated systems.

What You Need

Minimum Job Requirements:

Documentation

Demonstrated experience working with functional customers, translating their needs into straightforward requirements, and documenting those requirements for technical teams.

Test Plans

Demonstrated experience developing test plans for both custom and commercial software that can be matrixed to user requirements or base functionality as appropriate.

Software Lifecycle

Software lifecycle knowledge including requirements, design, and development and testing with appropriate documentation – Work experience must show progressively increasing levels in complexity of work.

Project Documentation

Demonstrated experience creating and managing documentation for a project or system. This includes but is not limited to system configurations, requirements, project backlog, use cases, test plans, and job aids.

Customer Support

Experience providing customer support including configuring, administering and debugging technical issues with various IT systems.

Technical Knowledge

Demonstrated knowledge and experience using SQL.

Additional Job Requirements for System Analyst 2:

In addition to the Job Requirements outlined above, qualification at the System Analyst 2 level requires:

Programming/Scripting Skills

Demonstrated experience using a programming or scripting language.

Data Migration Experience

Demonstrated experience planning, documenting, and executing a large scale data migration.

Technical Experience

Experience developing or implementing advanced technical concepts, techniques, and standards based on professional principles and theories. Experience developing and documenting a test plan for a system. Experience executing manually or with the automated tool tests following test plans. Demonstrated experience creating detailed integration plans for multiple IT systems.

Education/Experience at lower level:

System Analyst 1: Typically requires a minimum of 2 years of related experience. A bachelor's degree in a relevant field or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required.

Education/Experience at higher level:

System Analyst 2 : Typically requires a minimum of 4 years of related experience. A bachelor's degree in a relevant field or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required.

Desired Qualifications:

Familiarity with JIRA and Confluence. Demonstrated experience using report engines such as Crystal Reports or SSRS. Knowledge of Document Control and Records Management systems such as Documentum. Ability to write Junit tests.

Experience consuming web services (REST and SOAP).
