Los Alamos National Laboratory Stationary Equipment Maintenance Lead (Technical Project Manager 2) in Los Alamos, New Mexico

What You Will Do

Los Alamos National Laboratory is seeking an experienced facility maintenance professional to fill the Stationary Equipment Maintenance Lead role for the Central Execution maintenance group. Reporting to the Maintenance Manager for MSS-CE, the selected candidate will have a strong mechanical background and will provide technical guidance and expertise regarding facility elevator, crane, HVAC and Boiler maintenance and repairs for the LANL facilities.

As the maintenance lead, you will work directly with stationary equipment crews to ensure facility mechanical systems and equipment across the laboratory are maintained in accordance with applicable codes, standards, laboratory policies and manufacturer recommendations. You will be responsible for generating, revising, reviewing and implementing institutional Preventive Maintenance Instructions (PMIs), maintaining the elevator out of service reports, HVAC refrigerant inventories, coordinating critical spare inventory with warehouse personnel, supporting Replacement-in-Kind project execution, and provide technical field direction for complex repairs in systems across the laboratory which may include subcontract support resources.

What You Need

Minimum Job Requirements:

Technical Expertise

In depth knowledge and the ability to research and apply equipment specific codes and standards including, but not limited to, ASME BPVC, A17, B30, B31; as well as CMAA specifications, various ANSI standards, AWS, building codes and ASTM standards; extensive knowledge of DOE/government and industry regulations affecting maintenance and site services.

Demonstrated experience in one or more facility inspection, testing and maintenance programs: Elevators, Cranes, HVAC/refrigeration, Boiler systems etc.

Collaboration and Problem Solving

Demonstrated experience researching, analyzing, and resolving problems and both independently and as a team member in regards to issues affecting facility equipment; the ability to interact effectively with all levels of personnel; building trust, gaining consensus, and resolving conflicts.

Program Coordination

Experience establishing, maintaining and coordinating a Facility Maintenance program; the ability to successfully plan, organize, lead, and monitor team efforts to completion.


Strong written and verbal communication skills, including demonstrated experience in technical writing, preparing technical reports and documents, and developing and giving verbal presentations to small groups.


Position requires a bachelor’s degree and five years of related experience, or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Active DOE Q-Clearance.

  • Experience in the building trades, especially mechanical systems

  • Certified Crane Inspector.

  • Certified Elevator Inspector.
