What You Will Do
This position will be filled at either the Software Developer 3/4 level, depending on the skills of the selected candidate. Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if the candidate is hired at the higher level.
The Software and Applications Engineering (SAE) Division supports Los Alamos National Laboratory’s (LANL) enterprise application and performs software application development support, database development and administration, software quality management, and enterprise application consulting.
The SAE-3 Site Infrastructure, Mission, and Programs Software Group provides software engineering services, custom application development, and commercial off the shelf application implementations. We are currently looking for an experienced software developer to join our team in support of the Infrastructure and Facilities Program Office where you will focus on supporting and enhancing the Archibus application.
Software Developer 3 ($94,100 - $155,700)
You will work supporting the Archibus application for the Infrastructure and Facilities Program Office. You must have extensive knowledge and experience with configurable COTS software products, specifically with integration and support. You must demonstrate excellent organization skills, and the ability to multi-task. Extensive knowledge of Oracle and Java development tools and processes is required and you must have experience in mentoring other junior software developers, and demonstrate the ability to architect integration solutions.
Software Developer 4 ($103,500 - $172,800)
In addition to what was outlined at the lower level, at this level you must have expert knowledge in Archibus or related building information modeling and CAD design software. You must be able to provide leadership and mentorship to team members and must have knowledge in designing and implementing strategies for data migration, system integration, and automation.
What You Need
Minimum Job Requirements:
Experience using agile practices and principles and experience utilizing Scrum or Kanban framework. Experience utilizing tools such as Jira/Confluence.
Solving unique development and production problems by using analytic ability and innovative thinking to meet budget, timetables, and objectives. Experience and demonstrated skill in conducting research, investigating alternative solutions, and recommending solutions to problems.
Applicants must have the ability to obtain and maintain DOE clearances, which normally requires US citizenship.
Education/Experience at lower level
Position requires a Bachelor's Degree in a relevant field and 8 years related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation. At this level, post graduate course work may be desirable.
Additional Job Requirements for Software Developer 4:
In addition to the requirements outlined above, qualification at the higher level requires:
Demonstrated expert experience designing and developing custom integration solutions from the ground up. Experience with automated testing tools. Experience designing and reviewing database configuration, models, and queries for efficiency and correctness. Experience with Archibus application and related data integration techniques.
Project management experience demonstrated through the direction and responsibility for numerous complex projects involving a number of components such as resources, budget, and schedule. Familiar with the disciplines of agile development and are committed to DevSecOps as a key practice in effective software delivery
Excellent writing and verbal communication skills with the ability to negotiate and use proper judgment in order to resolve conflicts, solve problems, increase efficiency, and improve services and products with minimal management help.
Education/Experience at higher level
Position requires a Bachelor’s Degree and 12 years of related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation. At this level, post graduate course work may be expected.
Additional Software Skills
Experience with Oracle middleware products.
Experience with modern frontend frameworks - React, Angular, or Vue.js and web servers such as Apache.
Experience with LANL ODS architecture.

Location: This position will be part of the Laboratory’s Telework Pilot and may work from a remote/home location within a two-hour ground commute of the Laboratory. The Telework Pilot is in effect from Oct. 1, 2020 through Sept. 30, 2021, but may be shortened or extended at the manager’s discretion. Ability to report on-site is a must for this position.
Position commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory.
