Los Alamos National Laboratory Software Developer 3 in Los Alamos, New Mexico

What You Will Do

As a member of our Software Development staff in the Software Applications and Engineering Group (SAE-3), you will have the opportunity to work and grow in an exciting and challenging environment dedicated to developing quality software using modern technologies. As part of our diverse multidisciplinary team, you will have the opportunity to grow in the areas of programming, software architecture, modeling and simulation, visualization, and software engineering.

To support LANL’s national security missions, our Software Developers are responsible for:

  • Working closely with end users on requirements gathering and development of secure and quality web-based applications.

  • Configure, automate, maintain, and document continuously integrated product builds and deployments.

  • Research new technologies and tools, incorporate their usage into new products and services.

  • Communicate and collaborate cross-functionally, and work well in a product focused team environment.

  • Develop, implement and maintain software applications and build new capabilities and refactor existing code of applications.

What You Need

Minimum Job Requirements

Technical Knowledge:

Expert experience in object oriented design and development. Expert knowledge and demonstrated application of relational database principles, data management, security, software development, and system programming technologies.

Technical Leadership:

Demonstrated senior technical leadership and experience providing direction for complex systems, leadership experience in software engineering methodologies and agile development. Experience working in a collaborative and interdisciplinary team environment.

Technical Development:

Demonstrated broad experience formally managing projects from inception through implementation, including project management, documentation, and training of users, system administrators, or others who may maintain or use the end products.

Tools / Technologies:

Experience in OO languages and modern web application frameworks, experience with relational database development, experience with XML and similar technologies.

Education/Experience:

Position typically requires a bachelor’s degree and a minimum eight years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Desired Qualifications

Technical Knowledge:

Demonstrated experience with Java EE and XML technologies. Knowledge and experience with Oracle and PL/SQL. Familiar with Apache Server and Apache PL/SQL Gateway Module. Experience working in an Agile (SCRUM) team environment.

Computing Environments:

Experience working on classified networks. Expert knowledge and demonstrated application of current and future networks, telecommunication, data management, security, hardware, software development, and systems programming technologies, how they interoperate, and how to architect such complex solutions.

Clearance:

Active DOE “Q” Clearance and a DOE “SCI” Clearance.

Additional Details

Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2 . Please note that this requirement applies only to citizens of the United States. Foreign nationals are subject to a similar requirement under DOE Order 142.3A.

Clearance: Q (Position will be cleared to this level). Applicants selected will be subject to a Federal background investigation and must meet eligibility requirements

New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing.

Regular position: Term status Laboratory employees applying for regular-status positions are converted to regular status.

Internal Applicants: Regular appointment employees who have served at least one year of continuous service in their current position are eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory.
