What You Will Do
The Material Controls and Accountability Group (SAFE-NMCA) is seeking an experienced Software Development professional. The MC&A team works to ensure compliance with Material Control and Accountability requirements while working with staff from operations to ensure the success of critical work in support of the Los Alamos National Laboratory mission objectives and National Security interests. As a NMCA Software Developer you will work with a team of highly capable software development and testing professionals using automation software to improve the efficiency and quality of the critical work performed by the group. You will use software development methodologies, tools and process to innovate and optimize how work is performed while setting the standard for best in class practices responsibly using technology to improve the overall MC&A program.
What You Need
Minimum Job Requirements:
Knowledge of software development methodologies, tools and processes, including software development methodology framework, source code control, application development tools and techniques, database design, development and management, programming languages, and component integration.
Knowledge of hardware and operating systems including system architectures, network infrastructures, and client server principles.
Knowledge of hardware and software integration and testing.
Ability to partner with customers.
Ability to translate technical terms to layperson's terms and present them to audiences outside of IST.
Education/Experience: Position typically requires a bachelor’s degree and a minimum eight years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. At this level, post graduate course work may be desirable.
Extensive experience working with nuclear material accountability systems such as LANMAS.
Knowledge and understanding of NMCA requirements as outlined in DOE O 474.2.
Advanced level problem solving skills, analytical skills and the ability to execute accounting decisions consistent with NMCA regulatory drivers and generally accepted accounting principles.

HRP: This position is subject to the requirements of the DOE Human Reliability Program as specified in 10 Code of Federal Regulation, Part 712, §712.11. These requirements include on going drug and alcohol testing, as well as periodic medical and psychological evaluations.
New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing.
Regular position: Term status Laboratory employees applying for regular-status positions are converted to regular status.
Internal Applicants: Regular appointment employees who have served at least one year of continuous service in their current position are eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory.
