What You Will Do
This position will be filled at either the Engineer 1 or 2 level, depending on the skills of the selected candidate. Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if the candidate is hired at the higher level.
As the SCADA Systems Engineer you will be a member of the Engineering Services – Utilities & Infrastructure (ES-UI) Utility Team and function as a SCADA system administrator who is responsible for the management and administration of SCADA server equipment. SCADA systems are deployed in support of LANL’s utilities including the Bulk Electric System (BES) 115kV transmission and 13.8kV distribution systems, potable water, sanitary sewer and similar network applications. The primary function of the incumbent is to support the electric SCADA systems governing the BES network at LANL.
Engineer 1 $85,400 - $139,600
At this level you will be responsible for the following:
Plans, implements, modifies, administers and evaluates Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) software and systems.
Assists and advises users and ES-UI Management on all aspects of SCADA systems design, operating mode, system software and/or equipment.
Assists technicians with the configuration and troubleshooting of wireless networks used for SCADA systems.
Oversees protection of the SCADA environment and ensures SCADA data security and integrity by establishing operational guidelines and controls including privacy, security, editing, validating and restart/recovery controls.
Collaborates with outside vendors in the designing of database schemas to integrate SCADA systems with other system's database structures.
Develops and modifies HMI/SCADA Systems, including 2D and 3D graphics creation, Tag Database generation, report development, computer setup and configuration, startup services including field setup and checkout, troubleshoot and operator training.
Create and/or maintain servers, data storage equipment, network equipment, firewalls, operating systems and various utility programs.
Works with department electricians and other staff in troubleshooting communication/integration issues between Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC's) and SCADA.
Maintaining the database to track inventory and licensing agreements for SCADA system hardware, software, firmware updates, IP addresses, ids/passwords in a centralized storage methodology.
Maintaining, keeping current and backing-up all PLC programs and SCADA configurations.
Other tasks as needed that may include Building Automation controls systems (Automated Logic) support and remote monitoring.
Engineer 2 $94,100 - $155,700
In addition to what was outlined at the lower level, at this level additional duties would include:
Assist in defining maintenance requirements including corrective maintenance and the tracking and trending of system performance.
Define and maintain technical baseline criteria and documents in support of facility configuration management.
Support associated safety analyses and hazards evaluations.
What You Need
Minimum Job Requirements:
One (1) to Two (2) years experience as a SCADA engineer or closely related duties (i.e.; controls system technician, automation engineer, process control engineer)
Fundamental computer and networking skills
Some programming experience in Python, C++, Matlab, or similar languages
Electronics troubleshooting skill and familiarity with diagnostic tools
Additional Job Requirements for Engineer 2:
In addition to the requirements outlined above, qualification at the higher level requ i res:
Three (3) or more years of experience as a SCADA engineer or closely related duties (i.e.; controls system technician, automation engineer, process control engineer)
Basic knowledge of DOE standards applicable to facility design, operation, and maintenance.
Basic Knowledge of the national codes and standards for Electrical Engineering.
Education/Experience at lower level : Position requires a Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering from an ABET-accredited college or university and 0 to 2 years of practical work experience.
Education/Experience at higher level : Position requires a Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering from an ABET-accredited college or university and a minimum of 3 years practical work experience to the degree necessary to perform the responsibilities outlined above.

This position will be physically located in Los Alamos, NM.
