Job Information

Los Alamos National Laboratory Quantum Computation and Quantum Information Postdoc in Los Alamos, New Mexico

What You Will Do

Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) is seeking postdoctoral researchers to work both independently and in a team environment on numerous aspects of quantum computing, quantum information, and quantum machine learning. The research will concentrate on noisy, intermediate-scale quantum (NISQ) computers and their applications. The positions provide opportunity to perform fundamental research on limitations of noisy quantum computers as well as their possible use in diverse fields such as condensed matter physics, quantum chemistry and machine learning.

The successful candidate will be expected to

  • develop noise-resilient algorithms for NISQ computers and theoretical tools to study how noise affects the computation on those computers

  • develop techniques for exploiting near-term quantum computing such as quantum neural networks and identify applications that benefit from quantum advantage

  • communicate research results through reports, presentations, and peer-reviewed publications.

What You Need

Minimum Job Requirements:

The successful candidate must have a PhD or equivalent in Physics, Computer Science, Mathematics, or related field from an accredited college or university(completed within the last 5 years). The candidate must demonstrate substantial research experience in one or more of the fields of quantum information, quantum algorithms, condensed-matter physics, quantum chemistry, simulation of quantum systems and machine learning. The successful candidate must be able to produce high quality research, as evidenced by past publications, reports, presentations, awards, etc. Preference will be given to candidates with strong interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate effectively in a team environment.

Note to Applicants:

-Please include a curriculum vitae with a publication list - preferably with citation counts - and a detailed cover letter (guideline: 1–2 pages) that describes your research interests and qualifications. The cover letter should address how your qualifications meet the job requirements. You should provide the names of three people who can serve as references for your abilities.

-The position has a flexible starting date.

-Strong candidates may be eligible for a Laboratory fellowship. See https://www.lanl.gov/careers/career-options/postdoctoral-research/postdoc-program/postdoc-appointment-types.phpfor details.

-In addition to applying online, please send the cover letter and CV to:

Dr. Lukasz Cincio, lcincio@lanl.gov

Dr. Patrick Coles, pcoles@lanl.gov

Review of applications will begin immediately and will continue until all positions are filled. The positions have an initial appointment of two years with possible third year extension. Salaries range from $75,500 to $113,000 based on experience and the type of appointment. See https://www.lanl.gov/careers/career-options/postdoctoral-research/postdoc-program/postdoc-salary-guidelines.phpfor details.
