Los Alamos National Laboratory Quality Performance Assurance &#8211; QPA Specialist 3 in Los Alamos, New Mexico

What You Will Do

The Quality Performance Assurance (QPA) Specialist will be part of the Institutional Quality and Performance Assurance-Quality Support Services (IQPA-QSS) group and will report to the IQPA-QSS Deployed Team Lead and Group Leader. The IQPA-QSS mission is to support Institutional Programs and Projects to ensure quality requirements are adequately implemented. The selected candidate will be deployed from IQPA-QSS to support the Prototype Fabrication (PF) Division as its point-of-contact (POC) for quality assurance activities.

The QPA Specialist will be responsible for ensuring quality requirements are incorporated into prototype and R&D fabrication. You will provide in-depth feedback associated with the development of the PF Division’s quality management system to ensure compliance and adherence to PF policies and procedures, in addition to assuring compliance with the PF Quality Assurance Plan (QAP) and SD330, Los Alamos National Laboratory Quality Assurance Program . Regular contacts with other resources internal and external to the IQPA-QSS organization are also typical to successfully execute responsibilities. Candidates must possess or have the ability to obtain a Q clearance.

Typical responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Prepare, upgrade, and maintain the PF Division Quality Assurance Plan (QAP)

  • Assist PF Division in preparation and maintenance of procedures for quality-affecting activities

  • Concur with quality-level assignment documentation

  • Assist the PF Division document control and records management administrator in maintaining quality records

  • Perform periodic independent assessments to evaluate PF Division’s compliance with procedures

  • Assist effective completion of management assessments and monitor effective corrective measures are implemented when required

  • Assist PF Division management in resolving quality problems internal to PF Division and preventing recurrence

  • Provide QA liaison support for the QA activities between PF Division and interfacing organizations and management

  • Review procurement documents to verify inclusion of necessary quality requirements

  • Provide review and comment for manufacturing process operations documented on part travelers

  • Ensure nonconformance reports are generated, dispositioned, and tracked to closure

  • Track nonconformances for adverse trends and report tracking to management for their review and action

What You Need

Minimum Job Requirements:

  • Working knowledge and experience of quality and/or contractor assurance regulatory/contractual documents (e.g., DOE Order 414.1, DOE Oder 226.1B, 10CFR830, NQA-1, DOE/NNSA weapons quality policy [NAP 401.1]). Knowledge and experience with the interrelation of these requirements documents.

  • Working knowledge of the intent, purpose, and design of the quality and performance assurance systems, including quality and performance assurance tools and the integration of quality into various programs and systems.

  • Strong skills in leading and engaging people; strong interpersonal, communications, negotiate agreements, and build consensus.

Education/Experience : This position typically requires a bachelor’s degree in a relevant field, and a minimum of 8 years of experience or equivalent combination of education and work experience.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of parts design, programming, and machining for a large-scale laboratory

  • Knowledge of machine shops, their interworking, and various machining equipment

  • Knowledge of Lean Six Sigma and its application within a production facility

  • Experience working with engineers, journeyman machinists, inspectors, programmers, and maintenance technicians

  • Experience working with stainless steel, brass, aluminum, depleted uranium, tungsten, and beryllium

Location: This position will be physically located in Los Alamos.

Position commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. Additional Details

Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2 . Please note that this requirement applies only to citizens of the United States. Foreign nationals are subject to a similar requirement under DOE Order 142.3A.

Clearance: Q (Position will be cleared to this level). Applicants selected will be subject to a Federal background investigation and must meet eligibility requirements

  • for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance which requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon position, additional authorization to access nuclear weapons information may be required that may or may not be available to dual citizens depending upon the circumstances.

  • Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. SeeDOE Order 472.2 for additional information.

New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing.

Regular position: Term status Laboratory employees applying for regular-status positions are converted to regular status.
