Los Alamos National Laboratory Project Manager 3/4 in Los Alamos, New Mexico

What You Will Do

This position will be filled at either the Project Manager 3 or 4 level, depending on the skills of the selected candidate. Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if the candidate is hired at the higher level.

You will support the IFPROG Division under Facilities and Operations, which is responsible for execution of infrastructure projects as required to meet the infrastructure needs at the Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL). These projects represent a range of mission critical facilities to typical infrastructure and utility upgrades or improvements.

You will act as the Project Manager to coordinate and administer a project from project planning and execution through close-out. Establish and maintain customer relationships as well as manage customer expectations throughout the project to resolve problems and coordinate support functions. Participate in planning and establishing schedules, forecasts, budgets, project execution, etc., and monitor progress to assure schedules are met and work is performed within budget. May provide assistance in the review of contract documents. May be assigned responsibility for a specific area of a project such as construction, engineering, or services.

Project Manager 3 Salary band is $113,100 – $190,900

As the Project Manager (PM) 3, you will be responsible for planning, organizing, coordinating and managing the project activities of assigned Los Alamos National Laboratory’s projects. The PM 3 provides direction to project teams and/or group leaders. Monitor project performance against budget, overall progress against schedule, identifies other deviations from project plan and implements corrective action.

You will have wide-ranging experience, use professional concepts and Laboratory objectives to resolve complex issues in creative and effective ways. Develop resolutions to complex problems that require the frequent use of creativity and where analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth evaluation of variable factors. Work is accomplished without considerable direction.

Project Manager 4 Salary band is $135,800 - $235,600

In addition to the duties outlined above, the Project Manager 4 will be required to:

Have exhibited broad expertise or unique knowledge, use skills to contribute to development of objectives and principles and to achieve goals in creative and effective ways. Work under consultative direction toward predetermined long-range targets. Assignments are often self-initiated. Virtually self-supervisory. Use independent judgment for determining course of action to accomplish objectives. Use wide latitude in the methods, techniques and evaluation criteria for obtaining results.

What You Need

Minimum Job Requirements:

  • Significant experience in construction project management, scheduling, project control activities and risk management.

  • Proven experience in developing Project Management Plans.

  • Skilled in contract formation, negotiation and administration.

  • Significant experience in engineering, procurement, and construction techniques, including their interfaces and interdependencies.

  • Skills in applying team building concepts

  • Highly skilled in oral, and interpersonal written communication.

  • Experience in Earned Value Management System (EVMS) tools and processes.

Additional Job Requirements for Project Manager 4:

  • In addition to the requirements outlined above, qualification at the higher level requ i res:

  • Extensive experience in developing Project Management Plans, for different types and sizes of construction projects.

  • Knowledge of Industry standards

  • Extensive experience of Earned Value Management System (EVMS) tools and processes.

Education/Experience for Project Manger 3: Position requires a bachelor’s degree and eight (8) years of demonstrated experience as a construction project manager or similar position, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Education/Experience for Project Manager 4: Position requires a bachelor’s degree and twelve (12) years of demonstrated experience or similar position, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience working with the Department of Energy (DOE) at headquarters and/or field office level, or with state and federal regulators.

  • Experience in successfully leading multiple projects through the standard phases to include initiation, planning, engineering, procurement, construction, start-up and testing, and close-out

  • Experience reporting to and communicating with multiple supervisory organizations/stakeholders.

  • Previous experience on a planning team and/or detailed engineering design.

Location: This position will be physically located in Los Alamos.

Position commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2 .
