Los Alamos National Laboratory Planning Manager (Manufacturing Manager 3) in Los Alamos, New Mexico
What You Will Do
Detonator Production (DP) is seeking a First Line Manager to provide leadership and management of approximately fifteen talented professionals focused on production planning and the packaging and transportation of high-explosive/classified materials. As one of the premier production agencies in the National Security Enterprise, DP works with a variety of stakeholders to provide high-quality products and services that support the nuclear stockpile, protect our nation, and promote global stability.
The duties for this position include, but are not limited to:
Oversee the development of a master production schedule across manufacturing and engineering groups; lead weekly production planning meetings
Oversee the development of a capacity requirements plan to support the master production schedule
Coordinate with stakeholders to address job tasking and resource requirements
Monitor production status and provide regular updates to line management
Support the development of scheduling tools using internal and external software solutions
Propose and lead solutions to mitigate work stoppages
Develop metrics to gauge the performance of production lines and adherence to schedule
Provide customer demand forecasting reports in accordance with inventory and procurement requirements
Oversee the DP Packaging & Transportation (P&T) team to provide timely shipment of high-explosive and classified products and materials to internal and external customers
The successful candidate will work across technical organizations within the Associate Laboratory Directorate of Weapons Production (ALDWP), including manufacturing, engineering, and program management groups, as well as internal and external customers.
This position will report to the Group Leader (GL) in the Detonator Production Support (DP-SUP) group. This group is responsible for production planning and scheduling, inventory control and warehouse management, procurement and supply chain maintenance, and information systems development.

What You Need
Minimum Job Requirements:
Operations Management: Demonstrated experience in a management or leadership role with an ability to effectively lead, manage, supervise, and develop employees; demonstrated experience in leading organizational processes.
Personnel Management: Demonstrated experience related to coaching/mentoring, career planning, performance management, leadership development, training, and succession planning.
Planning: Demonstrated experience with production planning, scheduling, and methods to establish shop floor control.
Manufacturing: Experience in manufacturing support operations using IT systems and methodologies.
Collaboration: Demonstrated experience in developing and nurturing a broad range of internal and external relationships; demonstrated ability to interact effectively with all levels of personnel to build trust, gain consensus, and resolve conflicts; demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a team.
Continuous Improvement: Demonstrated experience with continuous improvement (CI) efforts, such as Lean, Six Sigma, Kaizen, or other methodologies.
Communication: Strong interpersonal, presentation, and written skills, demonstrated by relationships built, briefings prepared, and presentations given.
Education/Experience :Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution and five (5) years of relevant experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Desired Qualifications:
Production Systems: Advanced knowledge of material requirements planning (MRP) or enterprise resource planning (ERP) tools, shop floor control methodologies, production planning, and resource management.
Nature of Work: Demonstrated experience interacting with DOE/NNSA and National Security Enterprise sites and complexes.
