Los Alamos National Laboratory Operations Support Specialist 2/3 in Los Alamos, New Mexico
What You Will Do
This position will be filled at either the Operations Support Specialist 2 or 3 level, depending on the skills of the selected candidate. Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if the candidate is hired at the higher level.
The successful applicant will support the organization with high-quality operations and administrative support. This will include performing and providing support for documents and records management, reviews, assessments, fact-findings, and issues and metrics tracking.
We are seeking a motivated, high-performing person who enjoys working with a close-knit, high-energy organization charged with conducting facility operations at TA-53, where the Los Alamos Neutron Science Center (LANSCE) is the primary activity and facility. We are looking for a person with great communication skills, that is highly organized, self-driven, and has superb interpersonal skills for interacting with organization members as well as the varied collection of programmatic science and technology organizations conducting work at TA-53.
The position is within the office of the LANSCE Facility Operations Director (FOD) under the Associate Laboratory Director, Physical Sciences (ALDPS). The LANSCE FOD is the ALDPS’s principle agent for operations and is responsible for executing non-programmatic work in TA-53 facilities.
Operations Support Specialist 2 ($64,400 - $102,300)
The successful candidate will:
Work with document control to get all of our records into a common system.
Work with Operations Managers to create and update procedures.
Work with Issues Management Coordinator to help with issue tracking and closure.
Work with project tracking to ensure we are maintaining an up-to-date tracking method and status.
Assist with the lock-out/tag-out annual assessment.
Assist with the coordination and documentation of assessments.
Other tasks as needed – we are a diverse organization with many opportunities for growth.
Operations Support Specialist 3 ($77,300 - $126,000)
In addition to what was outlined at the lower level, at this level the successful candidate will:
Become the point of contact (POC) for Facility Duty Officers
Become the New Activity Review coordinator
Work with Associate Laboratory Director, Facilities and Operations support staff for update of metrics and other info.
Become the POC for Fire Protection Fire Hazard Analyses as well as the actions that need to be closed/addressed.
Assist in the creation of annual Work Packages and funding requests.
Assist in the facilitation of Fact Findings.
What You Need
Minimum Job Requirements:
Knowledge of facility operations, policies and procedures.
Knowledge of document controls and records management.
Understanding of work hazards, safety practices, operating configuration, and lock-out/tag-out policies and procedures.
Knowledge of the attributes of a sound conduct of operations program.
Experience and skill in conducting research, investigating alternative solutions, and recommending solutions on problems affecting facility operations.
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, particularly with respect to prioritization, planning, and follow-through.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Experience working and tasking independently while being a critical part of a team.
Ability to work to and deliver on deadlines; but able to adapt to changing requirements.
Experience and advanced skills with Microsoft Office Suite.
Additional Job Requirements for Operations Support Specialist 3:
In addition to the requirements outlined above, qualification at the higher level requires:
Advanced knowledge of facility operations, policies and procedures.
Advanced knowledge of document controls and records management.
Advanced understanding of work hazards, safety practices, operating configuration, and lock-out/tag-out policies and procedures.
Advanced knowledge of the attributes of a sound conduct of operations program.
Education/Experience at lower level: A Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution and 5 years of related experience or an equivalent of education and experience directly related.
Education/Experience at higher level: A Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution and 8 years of directly related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related
Knowledge of accelerator facilities, especially LANSCE.
Ability to conceptualize and communicate major elements of facility operations and operational quality assurance to both technical and non-technical personnel.
Knowledge of Laboratory financial system and processes.
Knowledge of the Laboratory's issues management process and performance measurement processes.
Knowledge of requirements drivers such as DOE orders, and federal regulations.
Working and demonstrated knowledge of Laboratory business and operations systems and standard software applications.
Ability to obtain a Q clearance.
