Los Alamos National Laboratory Neutrino Physics Postdoc in Los Alamos, New Mexico

What You Will Do

The Physics Division at Los Alamos National Laboratory invites outstanding applicants for a postdoctoral position in the Neutrino Physics team of the Nuclear and Particle Physics and Applications Group (P-3) to work on the MicroBooNE, Short-Baseline Near Detector (SBND), ProtoDUNE and Deep Underground Neutrino Experiment (DUNE) experiments. LANL has leading roles in the short and long-baseline neutrino program. On the short-baseline neutrino (SBN) program, the group plays a key role in the areas of neutrino oscillation and detector physics analyses for MicroBooNE, and development of slow controls and the photon detection system for SBND. On DUNE, the group is involved in multiple efforts, including developing key calibration systems. The selected candidate will take a leading role in the development of calibration systems for DUNE along with analysis of ProtoDUNE or SBN data. Depending on the selected projects, candidates may be based at LANL and/or CERN (Switzerland) for short or long periods of time. The postdoctoral term is for 2 years, with an option to renew for a third year.

What You Need

Minimum Job Requirements:

  • Experience with data analysis tools typically used in particle physics

  • Good oral and written communication

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience with lasers and their operation

  • Experience with calibration techniques, especially in noble liquids (e.g. Argon/Xenon detectors)

  • Experience with neutrino oscillation and cross section analyses

Education: Applicants are required to have a Ph.D. in physics, preferably in particle physics, within the past five years, or to be completed in the next few months.
