Los Alamos National Laboratory Network Professional 3 in Los Alamos, New Mexico

What You Will Do

Join our world-class team! Los Alamos National Laboratory is looking for an exceptional Network Professional 3 to join our Core Services Team. The successful candidate is one who has an inquisitive, analytical mind and constantly looks for solutions to difficult problems. The Network Professional 3 will be a trusted advisor and lead teams of technicians to restore service for major outages and work under minimal direct supervision. As subject matter expert you will perform duties related to implementation and maintenance of LANL’s open and classified networks. NIE-CS is primarily a customer focused group which has the primary duty of daily 24/7 support and operation of LANL’s networks and is responsible for monitoring, managing and maintaining all network assets on all LANL networks. The Core Services (NIE-CS) group provides operational support for production systems for the division in the areas of network infrastructure, network authentication and authorization, Identity Management, web services, Media Services, and Collaboration services.

What You Need

Minimum Job Requirements:

Technical Knowledge

Knowledge of current network technology including network protocols (IP, BGP, OSPF, PBR), network infrastructure elements including services and related protocols. Understanding of the 7 Layer OSI Model, LAN Interconnections (Routing, Bridging, Switching), and Basic WAN. Advanced knowledge and demonstrated experience managing windows servers and installed applications

Tools and Systems

Practical knowledge of TCP/IP networking and troubleshooting connectivity issues. Experience providing solutions for an extensive and diverse range of complex network problems. Experience provisioning & administering network equipment. Experience running network traffic analysis via packet capture software.

Technical Communication & Collaboration

Excellent written and oral technical communication skills as demonstrated by ability to communicate complicated technology concepts to multiple employees and end-users. Demonstrated experience working as a productive member of an interdisciplinary team, as well as the ability to train and mentor junior technicians and work under minimal direct supervision

Education & Years of Relevant Experience: Requires a Bachelor’s Degree and a minimum of eight years of technical experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Along with your resume, a detailed cover letter explaining how you meet each of the minimum requirements and any of the desired qualifications is required.

Desired Qualifications:

Technical Experience

Demonstrated experience designing, implementing and/or supporting at least three of the following: BGP, OSPF, VLANs, VPNs, IPSEC, Cisco IOS & NX-OS, Juniper, ACLs and IP subnetting. Demonstrated experience with fiber/copper including (tracing and running cables, types of fiber and associated optics) Cisco devices, and Arista switches. Experience administering and maintaining enterprise-level wireless. Demonstrated experience troubleshooting Ethernet, VPN (IPSec, SSL), VoIP, WiFi, TCP/IP.

Tools and Systems

Demonstrated experience with network monitoring tools such as solarwinds, hpna, spectrum, and BMC Remedy or other incident management tools. Experience with the administration of virtual machines in a VMware environment. Strong experience with server administration, network administration, workflow processes, configuration documentation and creating /modifying network Diagrams (Visio, Office.)

Education & Certifications

Network Certifications, Cisco or juniper certifications preferred

LANL/DOE

Experience using LANL or other DOE systems.

Clearance

Active DOE “Q” clearance

Work Environment: Confined spaces, working alone, working weekends, overtime or irregular schedule, working on-call/rotating schedule, operation of motor vehicles. Occasional work in laboratory areas that are in close proximity to areas performing hazardous work.

Essential Job Functions (can perform with or without reasonable accommodation): Color discrimination, reaching overhead, reaching horizontally, reaching down, typing or keyboarding, gripping with the hands, ladder use, and the ability to lift up to 40 lbs.

Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2 .
