Los Alamos National Laboratory Mechanical Engineering/Designer/Drafter Post Bachelor Student in Los Alamos, New Mexico

What You Will Do

Working as part of a growing, fast-paced team, the successful candidate will be responsible for creating detailed three-dimensional system designs for complex mechanical/chemical processing equipment. The successful candidate will perform a vital role as part of a highly diverse team made up of chemical engineers, materials engineers, mechanical engineers, and chemists. Regular functions include but are not limited to; interaction with scientists and chemical engineers to translate system needs into design realities; interaction with machinists to translate designs into machinable parts;operation of additive manufacturing equipment for prototyping and functional part fabrication. The successful candidate will contribute to program deliverables including drawings, reports, and system fabrication.

What You Need

Minimum Job Requirements:

  • Demonstrated experience to perform work in a research oriented environment including planning and conducting hands-on laboratory experiments, analyzing results, and writing reports.

  • Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly and concisely in English, both orally and in writing.

  • Demonstrated ability to perform as an effective member of a multidisciplinary team conducting scientific, engineering or industrial work.

  • Demonstrated ability to work independently.

  • Demonstrated record of reliability and versatility.

  • Demonstrated competency with computer programming in support of engineering design (e.g., Solidworks, Creo).

Education/Experience :A B.S. from anaccredited Bachelor’s Degree program in Mechanical Engineering, EngineeringTechnologist,or related technical field completed within past 3 yearsor soon to be completed, with cumulative GPA of at least a 3.0on a 4.0 scale (or equivalent).

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience with additive manufacturing.

  • Experience with mechanical fabrication and testing techniques

  • Experience with computer Aided Design (CAD) and Finite Element Analysis (FEA)

  • Experience with laboratory or machine shop experience demonstrating an attention to detail and commitment to safety.

  • Experience with experimental control programming (e.g., LabView, Python, etc.)

  • Commitment to achieving results in a complex social and organizational setting.

Additional Details

Directive 206.2 - Employmentwith Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee issuitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2 . Pleasenote that this requirement applies only to citizens of the United States. Foreign nationals are subject to a similar requirement under DOE Order 142.3A.

No Clearance: Position does not require a security clearance. Selected candidates will be subject to drug testing and other pre-employment background checks.
