Los Alamos National Laboratory Learning Specialist 1/2 in Los Alamos, New Mexico

What You Will Do

Use your skills and enthusiasm to implement new employee training programs for one of the most important research institutions in the world. As a part of the Operational Readiness Implementation, Training & Mission Services Group (ORI-1), you will be able to apply your excellent customer service, logistics, coordination and computer-based skillsets to assist new employees with onboarding, orientation and navigation through training programs within the Associate Laboratory Directorate for Weapons Production (ALDWP). The successful candidates will support a highly interactive and cooperative environment in one of the following training activities:

  • NET Academy Phase 1 (Months 0-3 from hire) Navigator/Logistics for various new tracks

  • NET Academy Phase 2 (Months 4-9 from hire) Navigator/Logistics for various new tracks and legacy population

  • Organizational Learning/Development Navigator/Logistics scope

Level 1 Responsibilities include, but not limited to:

  • Course scheduling, including managing and implementing complex, overlapping schedules

  • Learning Management System Administration (issuing credit, managing course registration, creating scheduled offerings, course management, running reports)

  • Provide navigational guidance to a cohort of individuals, including escorting to various locations throughout the site, getting to know LANL, following program schedule, and addressing basic new hire questions

  • Assisting with implementation of courses/curricula

In addition to Level 1 duties, Level 2 Responsibilities include (but not limited to):

  • Planning, development, and implementation of supplemental course materials

  • Planning, development, and implementation of new NET tracks

What You Need

Minimum Job Requirements:

Operational Functions

Basic knowledge of business activities in an operational environment, including familiarity with one or more of the following: formality of operations, compliance practices, configuration management, training and qualification, and feedback and improvement.

Computer Skills/Business Systems

Knowledge of business and operations systems and standard software applications (i.e. Microsoft and Adobe products). Ability to quickly learn and adapt to use of LANL business systems (i.e. Oracle, UTrain, Issues Management, etc.). Ability to effectively manage multiple, complex and overlapping calendars.

Critical Thinking

Entry-level experience in conducting research, investigating alternative solutions, and recommending solutions on problems affecting facility operations and operational quality assurance.

Communication

Basic ability to conceptualize and communicate program requirements and detailed elements to both technical and non-technical personnel. Demonstrated skill with interpersonal, written, and verbal communications.

Customer Service

Exceptional customer service skills and the ability to provide clear, concise support and guidance to others in sometimes stressful situations. Ability to interact professionally with all types of personnel, including external interfaces and executive management.

Education and Experience

Level 1: Position requires a Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution and 2 years of related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.

Additional Job Requirements for Learning Specialist 2:

In addition to the requirements outline above, qualification at the higher level requires:

Program Development

Experience designing and/or developing training/education programs for a wide variety of target audiences. Proven success in implementing such programs as evidence through program materials and implementation schedules.

Education and Experience

Level 2: Position requires aBachelor’s degree from an accredited institution and a minimum of five years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.

Desired Qualifications:

Additional Education and Training: Bachelor’s degree preferred.

Special Skills/Knowledge:

Basic knowledge of documentation quality assurance, including document controls and records management.

  • Familiarity with regulatory guidance and the implementation thereof.

  • Experience with educational programs and/or academic institutions.

Location: This position will be physically located in Los Alamos, NM.

Position commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. Additional Details

Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2 . Clearance: Q (Position will be cleared to this level). Applicants selected will be subject to a Federal background investigation and must meet eligibility requirements

  • for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance which requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon position, additional authorization to access nuclear weapons information may be required that may or may not be available to dual citizens depending upon the circumstances.

  • Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. SeeDOE Order 472.2 for additional information.

HRP: This position is subject to the requirements of the DOE Human Reliability Program as specified in 10 Code of Federal Regulation, Part 712, §712.11. These requirements include on going drug and alcohol testing, as well as periodic medical and psychological evaluations.

New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing.

Regular position: Term status Laboratory employees applying for regular-status positions are converted to regular status.
