Los Alamos National Laboratory Interior Designer (Planner 2) in Los Alamos, New Mexico
What You Will Do
Come join our team and help us support the world-class scientific excellence at LANL by ensuring that our Laboratory work areas support the broad mission sets and unique needs of the work performed here. This position performs workspace planning throughout the laboratory with a turnkey approach to all aspects of interior design and move management. This position resides in the Infrastructure Programs Office, which is a multidisciplinary organization that provides both short and long-term strategic infrastructure and facilities planning, space management, real estate and facility utilization services to the Laboratory.
As a Facility Planner, your duties will include:
Participating in the planning and development of long-range plans to meet future institutional space needs. Assisting in the development of organizational objectives, short and long-term plans and ensuring that assigned work objectives are attained and schedules are met. Assist in the further implementation of Telework space throughout the Laboratory and Santa Fe campuses.
Participating in interior design implementation. Installation of systems furniture, freestanding furniture and ensuring that workspaces are fully functional, desirable spaces for Laboratory staff to conduct their work.
Coordinate relocation of facility occupants due to reassignment, consolidation, etc., including the provision for temporary (swing) space to accommodate displaced personnel resulting from short-term inconveniences.
Assess project issues and develop resolutions to meet productivity, quality, and client-satisfaction goals and objectives, review, prepare, and report on project and budget status, and manage schedules.
Conduct field walk-downs that include: measurement of both interior and exterior facility dimensions, room use categorization based on industry standard and Department of Energy (DOE) or National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) defined criteria, utilization assessments, and general working conditions within facilities.
Function as point of contact and provide facility and space management consultation to customer groups
What You Need
Minimum Job Requirements:
Ability to understand and interpret architectural, interior, furniture, mechanical and electrical floorplans and documents.
Experience working with databases to collect, manage, interpret and report large volumes of data.
Skill to conceptualize and communicate major elements of interior design and space management to both technical and non-technical personnel.
Experience and skill in a customer service based environment.
Excellent Communication Skills (Verbal &Written)
Ability to understand requirements affecting interior and architectural programs and projects.
Ability to do detailed task-level planning and execution within a larger strategic framework
Position requires a bachelor’s degree and a minimum of five years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Skill in the preparation and presentation of interior, architectural and furniture documentation and drawings.
Knowledge of the Laboratory’s furniture and space management policies, practices and procedures.
Knowledge of CET, Revit or AutoCad in developing and reviewing floorplans or furniture designs.
Knowledge of engineering and life safety standards related to facility modifications
Experience working with furniture design, installation or reconfiguration projects.
National Council for Interior Design Qualification (NCIDQ).

Location: This position will be part of the Laboratory’s Telework Pilot and may work from a remote/home location within a two-hour ground commute of the Laboratory. The Telework Pilot is in effect from Oct. 1, 2020 through Sept. 30, 2021, but may be shortened or extended at the manager’s discretion. Ability to report on-site is a must for this position.
Position commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory.
