The Software and Applications Engineering (SAE) Division is the LANL application services provider of choice, partnering with our customers to provide best in class solutions in support of operations, mission, and the Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) agenda.
SAE provides custom software development, COTS application implementation, and middleware and database development, engineering, and administration support services for the Lab. Our mission is to “deliver reliable, secure and cost effective software and applications that meet business and operational needs in support of the LANL mission.” SAE relies heavily on services provided by the ALDBUS Network and Infrastructure Engineering (NIE), eXperience IT (XIT) and Service Innovation (SI) organizations. We collaborate closely with our customers to develop solutions and support business functions across the Lab.
The Software and Applications Engineering (SAE) Division at Los Alamos National Laboratory is seeking qualified Computer Science, Information Technology (MIS) or Computer Engineering Undergraduate (Junior/Senior)students seeking challenging paid internship. Candidates must be admitted or active in a graduate program and have a minimum GPA of a 3.2/4.0 for consideration.
SAE-1: Overview
The Environmental, Safety, Health, Quality, Security and Visualization Solutions Group (SAE-1) provides software application, engineering and administration services in support of the environmental, safety and health, and quality mission at the Laboratory and includes a team focused on 3D graphics and animation.
SAE-2: Overview
The Enterprise Resource Planning Business Process Management Solutions Group (SAE-2) provides software application, engineering and administration services in support of the business mission at Los Alamos National Laboratory, including financial, human resources and procurement and their related business partners.
SAE-3: Overview
The Mission, Programmatic, Workflow, Integration and Data Access Solutions Group (SAE-3) provides software application, engineering and administration services in support of our enterprise wide customers to include document storage, customer process workflow, custom web and mobile application for customer groups outside of SAE-1 and SAE-2, development, data warehousing and integration services, and deployed development staff.
What You Need
Minimum Job Requirements:
Database Systems
Software Engineering, to include general knowledge of one or more programming languages (Java, JavaEE, Python, etc.)
Cyber infrastructure
Emerging and advanced applications of IT
Cyber or Information security
Systems, project, and process management
Experience working effectively as part of a team
Basic knowledge and understanding of the syntax, structure, features and facilities of at least one programming language such as Java, Python, C#, ASP.NET
Basic knowledge and understanding of systems development life cycle
Strong interpersonal communication skills
Linux, Redhat, Ubuntu
Enterprise Applications
Simulation and visualization
Desired Qualifications:
Knowledge and understanding of relational databases (Oracle, MySQL, PostgreSQL, SQL Server)
Experience with any of the following technologies: AngularJS, Angular2+, Bootstrap, JavaScript Frameworks, jQuery Libraries, AJAX, HTML, ASP.Net (MVC/Web API)
Experience with software configuration management; software quality assurance methodologies; software development methodologies
Experience reading and interpreting application system design and program specifications
Experience writing software programs in a specific language for a specific platform
Education : Students pursuing a Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Management Information Systems, Computer Engineering (or relevant degree in IT) major while maintaining a minimum of a 3.0 GPA.

No Clearance: Position does not require a security clearance. Selected candidates will be subject to drug testing and other pre-employment background checks.
