The Software and Applications Engineering (SAE) Division is the LANL application services provider of choice, partnering with our customers to provide best in class solutions in support of operations, mission, and the Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) agenda.
SAE provides software development and COTS application implementation and support services for the Lab. Our mission is to “deliver reliable, secure and cost effective software and applications that meet business and operational needs in support of the LANL mission.” SAE relies heavily on services provided by the ALDBUS Network and Infrastructure Engineering (NIE), eXperience IT (XIT) and Service Innovation (SI) organizations. We collaborate closely with our customers to develop solutions and support business functions across the Lab.
The Software and Applications Engineering (SAE) Division at Los Alamos National Laboratory is seeking qualified Computer Science, Information Technology (MIS) or Computer Engineering Undergraduate students seeking challenging paid internship. Candidates must be enrolled in a bachelor's degree program and have and maintain a minimum GPA of a 3.2/4.0 for consideration.
The Enterprise Business Software Group (SAE-2) provides custom application development, commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) application implementation, database administration, and adoption/integration with Software as a Service solutions. SAE-2 supports business processes for financial, personnel, procurement, and human resources IT systems. The successful candidate for this position will have the opportunity to develop and maintain Lab-wide (enterprise) software, utilizing many of the modern languages, toolsets, and databases. We are looking for someone who has a strong desire to learn new technologies, business processes, to become an expert in their field, and the willingness and confidence to develop safety-class, mission-critical software.
What You Need
Minimum Job Requirements:
Proven software lifecycle knowledge of all phases, including requirements, design, development, and testing with appropriate documentation. Knowledge of agile practices and principles.
Basic knowledge of one or more programming languages (Java, JavaEE, ASP.Net, C#, etc.). Experience with distributed version control systems like Git and/or TFS. Experience reading and interpreting application system design and program specifications.
Excellent technical writing and verbal communication skills to handle communication with technical and non-technical peers, customers, and stakeholders. Strong teamwork and communication skills.
Applicants must have the ability to obtain and maintain DOE clearances, which normally requires US citizenship.
Education/Experience :Students pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Management Information Systems, Computer Engineering (or relevant degree in IT) major while maintaining a minimum of a 3.2 GPA.
Experience using markup languages such as HTML5, XML, etc.
Experience with DB design and implementation of DB tables.
Experience with utilizing non-relational databases.
Experience consuming RESTfull services with the use of JSON.
Knowledge of the DevSecOps culture and principles and experience in CI/CD development

Location: This position will be part of the Laboratory’s Telework Pilot and may work from a remote/home location within a two-hour ground commute of the Laboratory. The Telework Pilot is in effect from Oct. 1, 2020 through Sept. 30, 2021, but may be shortened or extended at the manager’s discretion. Ability to report on-site is a must for this position.
