Los Alamos National Laboratory Information Technology Manager (Group Leader) 4 in Los Alamos, New Mexico

What You Will Do

This posting is for the Group Leader of the Infrastructure Services (IS) Group in the Network and Infrastructure Engineering (NIE) Division in the Business Management Directorate (ALDBUS). The NIE-IS group is one of five groups in NIE. The group consists of six technical teams and manages several key and highly visible enterprise network core services that support the unclassified and classified LANL environments.

Infrastructure Services is responsible for providing the following network infrastructure and core services to LANL users:

  • Institutional virtual compute and storage

  • Operating systems (OS) support for Laboratory business systems

  • Institutional network services

  • Cloud services

  • Network engineering architect services

  • Network Infrastructure

As an important member of the NIE Management team, the successful candidate’s primary responsibilities will include the following:

Leadership

  • Organizational management, including budgeting, forecasting and financial management and salary management

  • Providing reliable, repeated, automated metrics for group operations

  • Staff development and succession planning

Technical Competence and Experience

  • Remote access

  • Encryption/PKI

  • Networking and Infrastructure

  • Leading IT Projects

  • Core services (DNS, Authentication, Firewall administration)

  • Virtual private cloud

Institutional Acumen

  • Manage the NIE-IS work packages, which requires demonstrated stewardship of financial resources, while working under clearly defined fiscal performance expectations, and other OCIO fiscal reporting requirements

  • Foster effective working relationships with Laboratory leaders, ALDBUS managers, and customers to ensure effective implementation of ALDBUS and NIE initiatives

What You Need

Minimum Job Requirements:

  • Demonstrated ability in leading a large team to implement new network technologies in support of the changing network requirements of mission.

  • Knowledge of and experience delivering core network services and large virtual environments.

  • Knowledge of configuration management tools/processes.

  • Proven ability to manage 24X7 operations

  • Demonstrated experience in leading change in an organization through strategic planning and tactical operations management.

Education/Experience: Position requires a Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems or related field from an accredited institution and 8 years related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated experience with external audits.

  • Demonstrated experience leading continuous improvement initiatives.

  • Demonstrated experience working with LANL’s OCIO and Los Alamos Field Office.

  • Demonstrated experience with collaboration across organizational boundaries and the ability to manage customer relationships in a positive manner.

  • Active DOE Q clearance.

Location: This position will be physically located in Los Alamos.

Position commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. Additional Details

Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2 . Please note that this requirement applies only to citizens of the United States. Foreign nationals are subject to a similar requirement under DOE Order 142.3A.

Clearance: Q (Position will be cleared to this level). Applicants selected will be subject to a Federal background investigation and must meet eligibility requirements

  • for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance which requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon position, additional authorization to access nuclear weapons information may be required that may or may not be available to dual citizens depending upon the circumstances.

  • Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. SeeDOE Order 472.2 for additional information.

New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing.

Regular position: Term status Laboratory employees applying for regular-status positions are converted to regular status.

Internal Applicants: Regular appointment employees who have served the required period of continuous service in their current position are eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory.
