Los Alamos National Laboratory HPC Storage Systems Developer (Scientist 2/3) in Los Alamos, New Mexico
What You Will Do
This position will be filled at either the Scientist 2 or Scientist 3 level, depending on the skills of the selected candidate. Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if the candidate is hired at the higher level.
The Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) High Performance Computing (HPC) Design Group is searching for a strong contributor to help drive the future of supercomputer storage and I/O technologies. LANL has a history of being one of the leading innovators of large scale cutting edge storage and I/O capabilities for our supercomputers. The lab is also preparing for a recently announced 2023 “first of its kind” system utilizing Nvidia Grace processors and GPGPU’s (see https://www.lanl.gov/discover/news-release-archive/2021/April/0412-nvidia.php) that will provide 10x performance improvements in training giant Artificial Intelligence (AI) models with resulting unique storage requirements. If you have the drive, intellect, and skill sets discussed below, we look forward to your application.
Scientist 2 ($91,800 - $151,400)
To support Los Alamos National Laboratory’s scientific mission, it is necessary to provide storage system services that enable scientists to easily analyze and manage Terabytes to Petabytes of scientific data. The HPC Design Storage Team is tasked with designing, building, and integrating the storage systems hardware and software that enable faster and more efficient insight into extreme-scale scientific data sets. As part of the storage design team, you will collaborate to design and implement the next generation of storage system services for Los Alamos National Laboratory’s large-scale HPC and Machine Learning (ML) platforms. Tasks include the application of hardware-software co-design to build scalable storage systems, leverage computational storage to build efficient data services, and advance the frontiers of HPC storage to enable rapid insight into scientific data sets.
Scientist 3 ($110,400 - $186,300)
Additional tasks include mentoring team members on technical topics, managing the integration of developed systems into production platforms, and providing technical leadership for complex technical projects. Leadershipactivities may include leading collaborations with external partners, and presenting team outcomes at national and international technical conferences and workshops.
