Los Alamos National Laboratory Hardware Engineered Systems Tec (Engineered Systems Tec 2) in Los Alamos, New Mexico

What You Will Do

The Accelerator Operations and Technology Division (AOT) is seeking an Engineered System Tech 2 for the Instrumentation and Controls Group – Controls Hardware Team.

The successful candidate for this position will work as a member of the AOT-IC Hardware team, which has the primary responsibility of supporting instrumentation as well as control and data acquisition hardware at the Los Alamos Neutron Science Center.

You will work in a team environment and participate in activities that span from maintenance and upgrades of current systems, to participation in design activities that will lead to the development of future instrumentation and control systems. Your activities on any given work day will vary between troubleshooting and maintaining existing AOT-IC systems, fabricating/assembling new systems, deploying new systems, soldering, assembling cables, wiring chassis and junction box components, and working with project teams to upgrade or develop new systems.

What You Need

Minimum Job Requirements:

  • Demonstrated experience terminating cables and wiring equipment with accuracy and attention to detail, using good cable management and crimp/termination techniques

  • 1-2 years of experience and demonstrated skill with electronic instrumentation and test equipment and analysis of electronic circuits and systems to include system and component level diagnostics.

  • Demonstrated experience developing and working from formal drawings/schematics.

  • Proficiency using Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)

  • Availability to work flexible and extended hours as needed including the willingness to support the facility 24/7 through on-call duties on a rotating basis.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated experience soldering and/or IPC J-STD-001 Requirements for Soldered Electrical and Electronic Assemblies certification.

  • Familiarity with a variety of sensors, including pressure, flow, current, voltage, strain, and temperature.

  • Experience using AutoCAD, LabVIEW, Allen Bradley ControlLogix, or other documentation and/or controls related platforms.

  • Experience in installing and basic troubleshooting of computer networks.

Education: This position requires a minimum of a high school diploma and 3 years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Essential Job Functions (can perform with or without reasonable accommodation):Lifting 30+ pounds.

Location: This position will be physically located in Los Alamos, NM.

Position commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. Additional Details

Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2 . No Clearance: Position does not require a security clearance. Selected candidates will be subject to drug testing and other pre-employment background checks.
