Los Alamos National Laboratory Financial Business Analyst 1 in Los Alamos, New Mexico

What You Will Do

The Lab invites you to join our Finance Operations (FIN-OPS) group, supporting financial operations, reporting and analysis for the Deputy Directorate for Operations (DDOPS).

The position is responsible for assisting in the day-to-day budgeting activities and in preparing basic financial reports. Responsible for gaining an understanding of financial policies, procedures and usage of business systems. Formulates, distributes and maintains budgets for programs or organizational units using actual performance, previous budget figures, estimated funding, expense reports, and other data sources to control funds and provide for proper financial administration. Prepares financial plans, monitors implementation of financial policies, prepares regular and special-purpose reports, maintains historical records, analyzes trends, establishes cost rates and labor & M&S forecasts, recommends and interprets budgetary policies and procedures, prepares comparative evaluation of actual costs against budgeted funds, and determines rationale for variances between costs and budget.

What You Need

Minimum Job Requirements:

Finance/Accounting Experience

Basic knowledge of financial concepts, including financial planning and analysis, budget formulation and execution, business analysis, and general business operations. Skill in analyzing financial data and providing financial guidance and alternatives/recommendations to customers. Experience in applying problem solving techniques and communicating both orally and in writing.

Teamwork/Leadership

Ability to work in a complex organization with diverse operations, combined with a demonstrated record of effective teamwork. Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication and the ability to interact with a variety of constituents. Self-driven, accountable for individual learning and understanding of financial policies, processes, concepts while obtaining frequent mentoring from group staff.

Organizational Skills

Excellent organizational skills and the ability to independently establish priorities, manage projects, and execute complex business and financial assignments.

Education/Experience:

Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business administration; or the equivalent combination of education and relevant work experience.

Desired Qualifications:

  • General understanding of Federal Cost Accounting Standards, Federal Acquisition Regulations, and appropriations law.

  • Experience with Government Contractors which could include a National Laboratory or a National Nuclear Security Administration/Department of Energy facility.

  • Ability to obtain a Q clearance

Location: This position will be part of the Laboratory’s Telework Pilot and may work from a remote/home location within a two-hour ground commute of the Laboratory. The Telework Pilot is in effect from Oct. 1, 2020 through Sept. 30, 2021, but may be shortened or extended at the manager’s discretion. Ability to report on-site is a must for this position.

Position commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. If an employee has not served the time required, they may only apply for Laboratory jobs with the documented approval of their Division Leader. The position commitment for this position is 1 year .

Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2 .
