Los Alamos National Laboratory FCIC Biomass Postdoc in Los Alamos, New Mexico
What You Will Do The Materials Synthesis and Integrated Devices Group (MPA-11) is seeking postdoctoral candidates with extensive analytical capabilities background and strong fundamentals in chemistry/chemical engineering/mechanical engineering to support BETO’s (Bioenergy Technology Office) Feedstock Conversion Interface Consortium (FCIC). The goal of FCIC is to link fundamental chemical and thermo-physical properties (e.g., glass transition, surface energy, rheology, etc...) to biomass solids handling and transport, and biomass reactivity and selectivity. This project uniquely bridges fundamental science to engineering application. Candidates will work with a multidisciplinary team comprised of chemists, chemical engineers, biochemists, biologists, mechanical engineers, and modelers from eight national labs to address the current challenges facing Integrated Biorefineries. The initial postdoctoral appointment will be for two years.
What You Need
Minimum Job Requirements:
The successful candidate must have an experimental background and strong publication record centered on the analytical characterization of catalysts, polymers and/or biomass materials linking structure-function relationships. Specific skill sets that will be required for this project include:
Familiarity with advanced characterization techniques, such as: IGC, NMR, BET, GC, MS, DMA, DSC, TGA, Porosity, and DRIFTS
Independent and motivated with an exemplary work ethic to meet project deadlines and publish results
Team oriented mindset to complete tasks
Excellent communication skills (written and verbal)
Education/Experience : Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry or a related field completed within the last five years or soon to be completed is required.
Biomass feedstock variability and biomass operations (e.g., pretreatment, preprocessing, conversion)
Reaction engineering, catalysis, and kinetics
Rheology or DMA of polymers
Note to Applicants: For full consideration, applicants must submit a cover letter addressing how you meet the required and desired skills when applying for the position. A current C.V. with the minimum following information/sections is also required: Educational background, degree dates, GPA with scale; Work experience; Competitive honors; relevant extracurricular activities; Peer-Reviewed Publications; Non-peer-reviewed Publications; References.
