What You Will Do
Contribute to a dynamic team of facility engineering professionals that provide engineering solutions across a wide variety of buildings at one of the most important research facilities in the world. Los Alamos National Laboratory is looking for an enthusiastic senior-level Engineering Technologists with an interest in building systems and infrastructure to work in the Engineering Services – Engineering Project Delivery (ES-EPD) group. This posting is for multiple Engineering Technologist positions to serve under the Project Engineering, Design Engineering, and/or Field Engineering teams with a focus in one or more of the following disciplines: Electrical, Instrumentation and Controls, Mechanical, Pressure Safety, Welding, Fire Protection, Civil, Structural, and Architectural.
As an Engineering Technologist, you will use principles and theories of engineering, math and science to solve technical problems within discipline(s) in support of engineering and engineering research. You will support engineering/projects in the performance of complex and demanding assignments requiring initiative and independent judgment. Responsibilities will included, but will not be limited to assigned activities within an engineering discipline in support of facilities, design, operation, maintenance, project and/or research-based engineering; may provide direction to technicians; and be able to work independently and as part of a team. In addition, you will utilizes engineering and computer technology to accomplish work and continuously improve work processes to meet customer needs.
What You Need
Minimum Job Requirements:
Demonstrated ability to oversee, develop, and/or enforce adherence to Contract Documents consisting of drawings and specifications to define changes to buildings and infrastructure.
Effectively communicate engineering solutions both verbally and in writing for management, customers, peers, and craft personnel.
Demonstrate an expert knowledge of engineering principals, mathematics, and science to solve routine technical problems in area of discipline. Performs complex calculations and analyses in support of engineering.
In-depth understanding in planning and scheduling detailed phases of engineering work and performing work that involves conventional engineering to resolve conventional engineering issues, including complex features such as resolving conflicting design requirements, unsuitability of conventional materials and/or difficult coordination requirements.
Experienced developing resolutions to complex problems that require the frequent use of creativity and where analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth evaluation of variable factors.
Proven ability to prepare and/or carry out changes in design, methods of manufacture/assembly, and drafting techniques/procedures in area of discipline; coordinate corrective actions; coordinating engineering efforts in assigned areas between specialty and other engineering groups or disciplines, with the client, suppliers, and contractors and between other divisional groups; review project controls, cost estimates, quantity takeoffs, and staffing requirements for proposals, forecasts and change orders; and provide project support.
Demonstrated ability to perform work in accordance with the Conduct of Engineering (CoE) and applicable Federal, State, and Laboratory codes and standards.
Skilled at mentoring junior-level engineering technologists
Education/Experience :Position requires a Bachelor’ Degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology Science, Math or related degree from an accredited institution and 8 years of directly related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.
Expert knowledge of computer-aided drafting techniques, CAD modeling and design.
Expert knowledge of DOE and LANL Engineering Standards and Conduct of Engineering principals and procedures.
Current registration as a Professional Engineer (PE).
Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2 . Clearance: Q (Position will be cleared to this level). Applicants selected will be subject to a Federal background investigation and must meet eligibility requirements

Regular position: Term status Laboratory employees applying for regular-status positions are converted to regular status.
