Los Alamos National Laboratory Digital Engineering Project Manager (Technical Project Manager 2/3) in Los Alamos, New Mexico

What You Will Do

This position will be filled at either the 2 or 3 level, depending on the skills of the selected candidate. Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if the candidate is hired at the higher level.

The Digital Engineering Strategy Program Office (W-DES) seeks to establish a cohesive digital ecosystem for ALDW and the programs it supports. The role of W-DES is to provide support and guidance towards enabling the proper exchange of information across our tools and processes. The program office plays a key role in the development and establishment of Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE), Models Based Engineering (MBE), and Models Based Definition (MBD) processes.

W-DES is looking for technical project managers who will provide critical support in the development of Digital Engineering initiatives within the weapons programs at Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL). As part of the W-DES team, the technical project manager will participate in the development of tools and capabilities that enhance our engineering and business processes.

Technical Project Manager 2 $94,100 - $155,700

This position will support on going initiatives in the areas of MBSE, MBD, and assets management. The selected candidate will work with subject matter experts and end users to understand and develop the requirements for pilot evaluations of new processes and tools. The candidate will work with the customers to implement and validate the results of the pilot program. For successful initiatives, a full-scale implementation plan will be developed.

Technical Project Manager 3 $113,100 - $190,900

In addition to what was outlined at the level 2, at this level the technical project manager will be expected to lead the Digital Engineering initiatives for larger projects or programs. The successful candidate will collaborate across the enterprise, sharing the lessons learned locally with other sites . At this level, the technical project manager will be expected to become well versed in the technical issues of the programs they support.

What You Need

Minimum Job Requirements:

Project Management: Understanding of project management principles with experience in the development and implementation of engineering projects.

Technical: Understanding of engineering processes or product development. This may include experience in the areas of design, development, test, or manufacturing.

Collaboration/Teaming : Demonstrated ability to work closely with teams. Must be able to build and maintain effective relationships with internal and external customers, as well as horizontal integrations across programs.

Communication: Strong written and verbal communication skills. Must have the ability to communicate efficiently and effectively to coordinate systems engineering activities across programs.

Additional Job Requirements for Technical Project Manager 3:

In addition to the requirements outlined above, qualification at the higher level requ i res:

  • Demonstrated engineering experience in several areas of the product realization process.

  • Demonstrated experience in project management.

Level 2 Education/Experience: Position requires a Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution and 5 years related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation. A Project Management Institute certification is preferred for this level.

Level 3 Education/Experience :Position requires a Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution and 8 years related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation. A Project Management Institute certification is desired for this level.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Understanding of Digital Engineering, Digital Thread, and Digital Twins.

  • Experience with PLM tools and processes.

  • Experience with MBD processes.

  • Experience with MBSE and common modeling approaches.

  • Experience with requirements management and associated requirements management tools.

  • Demonstrated experience in nuclear weapons development, qualification, and certification.

  • Active Q clearance or the ability to obtain Active Q Clearance.

Additional Details

Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2 . Clearance: Q (Position will be cleared to this level). Applicants selected will be subject to a Federal background investigation and must meet eligibility requirements

  • for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance which requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon position, additional authorization to access nuclear weapons information may be required that may or may not be available to dual citizens depending upon the circumstances.

  • Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. SeeDOE Order 472.2 for additional information.

New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing.

Regular position: Term status Laboratory employees applying for regular-status positions are converted to regular status.

Internal Applicants: Regular appointment employees who have served the required period of continuous service in their current position are eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory.
