Los Alamos National Laboratory Computing Systems Professional 2/3 in Los Alamos, New Mexico

What You Will Do

This position will be filled at either the Computing Systems Professional 2 or 3 level, depending on the skills of the selected candidate. Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if the candidate is hired at the higher level.

The Operational Readiness and Execution (ORI-2) group is seeking a highly motivated candidate to fill the position of Computing Systems Professional 2/3 working within the ORI-2 Manufacturing Systems Team. As a member of the Manufacturing Systems Team, y ou will be responsible for configurations of the applications in the operation and implementation of new software for the Manufacturing Management Systems (MMS) conglomerate. Current systems include but are not limited to Oracle Manufacturing Resource Planning (MRP), iBASEt Solumina Manufacturing Execution System (MES), Electronic Sales Package (ESP), and Digital Data Acquisition (DDA). Also, the Oracle Production Scheduling (OPS) application. The systems are used for the production, planning, collection of quality data, and electronic sales of product. The selected candidate will be expected to develop the highest level of proficiency in all MMS systems. You will be expected to provide a high level of interaction with both internal and external customers, including Functional Users, Software Developers, Database Administrators (DBAs), and System Administrators. This position will report to the ORI-2 Manufacturing Systems Team FLM.

Computing Systems Professional 2 ($77,300-$126,000)

At the Production Computing Systems Professional 2 level, thecandidate should have experience with Oracle EBS for Discrete Manufacturing Modules, MES, or equivalent knowledge and experience with other enterprise tools supporting manufacturing systems. Experience analyzing complex system issues; developing strategies and solutions to troubleshoot identified issues. The desired candidate will have a mix of both technical and functional expertise. The candidate will apply demonstrated experience while providingapplication configuration and development of functional testing to support new releases/upgrades and the development of functional designs . You will be responsible for the configurations of the systems, in both an unclassified and classified network. Additional tasks will be assigned as new features and enhancements are requested and developed for the systems. You will be expected to accomplish work assigned under limited supervision and direction.

Computing Systems Professional 3 ($94,100-$155,700)

At the Computing Systems Professional 3 level, you will perform the same work duties for a Computing Systems Professional 2, but at a more advanced knowledge and experienced level. At this level, you will be expected to accomplish work assigned under minimal supervision and direction.

Technical Experience:

Experience with SQL Queries. Demonstrated experience analyzing complex systems, developing strategies, and creative reporting solutions. Demonstrated ability to perform application configuration for manufacturing systems, such as ERP, MRP, MES, SAP systems. Demonstrated experience with planning and executing to defined due dates, documenting actions completed, providing status on actions completed and completing all work tasks independently with minimal error. Ability to test and support new releases, upgrades and the development of functional designs. Ability to write well-developed use cases and test scripts.


Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills; must be able to communicate with technical teams and business stakeholders, as well as clearly communicate software configuration for these audiences. Develop and maintain strong working relationships with team functional system analysts, all technical resources and subject matter experts for the area they support.

Customer Service:

Exceptional customer service skills and the ability to provide clear, concise support and guidance to others in sometimes-stressful situations. Experience interacting professionally with all types of personnel, including external interfaces and executive management.

Organization Skills:

Possess high attention to detail including strong organizational skills, analytical thinking, observational skills and problem-solving skills. Proven ability to multi-task and adjust to the workings of a dynamic environment.

Personal Leadership:

Demonstrated record of strong tactical decision-making. Demonstrated ability to calmly manage frequent interruptions and changing priorities; complete assignments without established procedures; be available, dependable, and punctual.

Education/Experience for Computing Systems Professional 2:

Position requires a bachelor’s degree and a minimum of four years related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Clearance : Ability to obtain a DOE “Q” clearance

Computing Systems Professional 3

In addition to the Job Requirements outlined above, qualification at the Computing Systems Professional 3 level requ i res:

Technical Experience:

Advanced knowledge and experience developing unique solutions to problems of unusual complexity, recommending and implementing courses of actions. Proven experience working with large data sets, demonstrating the ability to analyze data and provide actionable analysis for decision- making.

Education/Experience for Computing Systems Professional 3:

Position requires a Bachelor’s Degree and 8 years related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation. At this level, applicable advanced vendor and/or professional certification is desirable.

Desired Qualifications:

Additional Experience:

  • Experience working with Oracle E-Business Suite (EBS) for Discrete Manufacturing

  • Experience working with Manufacturing Systems (i.e. MRP, SAP, MES)

  • Experience working with iBASEt Solumina Manufacturing Execution System (MES)

  • Experience working with classified systems and data

LANL Specific:

  • Knowledge of Laboratory structure, policies and procedures. Experience working on classified systems and networks.

  • Active DOE “Q” clearance
