Los Alamos National Laboratory Cloud Engineer (Computing Systems Professional 2/3) in Los Alamos, New Mexico

What You Will Do

This position will be filled at either the Computing Systems Professional 2/Computing Systems Professional 3 level, depending on the skills of the selected candidate. Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if the candidate is hired at the higher level.

The Sensitive & Special Operations (SSO) Division provides a secure and compliant TS/SCI level environment for the execution of National Security programs through the use of classified networks and systems. The Special Security IT & Cyber Operations group (SSO-3) currently manages several classified networks and has an ongoing commitment to provide desktop, server, and network support and services to the Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) Field Intelligence Element (FIE) and other Government agency Intelligence Community users.

We are seeking an experienced cloud engineer to join our IT Enterprise team as a Computing Systems Professional 2/3 Cloud Engineer. The IT Enterprise Team plans, coordinates, and implements cloud computing solutions in support of national security research and development. You will be involved in a dynamic and challenging environment, focused on meeting the needs of scientific and technical research for the DOE Field Intelligence Element (FIE).

  • Working as a self-initiated team member to develop and implement LANL classified cloud systems

  • Representing the best interests of LANL/FIE and the LANL customer base

  • Assisting in the development of new computing environments

  • Assisting in the storage and processing of large data sets

  • Partnering with LANL/FIE IT stakeholders, IT management, and federal oversight partners to support compliant IT initiatives

What You Need

Minimum Job Requirements:

Computing Systems Professional 2 $77,300 – $126,000

Technical Knowledge

  • Ability to apply on broad basis principles and concepts of Linux operating system and version control systems such as Gitlab or BitBucket, including experience with mixed-programming languages such as Python, Go, YAML, JSON.

  • Configuration Managementexperience with Ansible, Puppet or Salt. Knowledge of Virtualization technologies such as VMWare and/or Amazon Web Services (AWS).

Technical Communication

  • Written and oral technical communication skills as evidenced by the production of materials for technical products, reports, documents, and/or code documentation methodologies.

Collaboration

  • Experience working as a productive member of an interdisciplinary team, including the ability to develop solutions for a wide range of complex problems while effectively networking with peers inside and outside of the organization.

  • Ability to mentor coworkers as a means to develop talent and grow the skillset of the team.

Customer Relations

  • Proven ability to satisfy customer requirements as demonstrated by the ability to resolve a wide range of issues in creative ways while directly contributing to the completion of milestones on multiple projects and/or specific programmatic objectives.

Clearance

  • Ability to obtain DOE Q/TS/SCI clearance

In addition to the requirements outlined above, qualification at the higher level requires:

Customer Relations

Training/Certifications: AWS Certified Solutions Architect, SysOpsAdmin, Developer - Associate or equivalent, or AWS Cloud Practitioner is preferred. AWS Professional level certification highly desired.

Education/Experience at lower level : Position typically requires a bachelor’s degree and a minimum of four years related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Education/Experience at higher level : Position requires a Bachelor’s Degree and 8 years related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation. At this level, applicable advanced vendor and/or professional certification is desirable.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Knowledge and experience using agile project management tools and DEVSECOPS.

  • Experience in developing, designing, and deploying cloud architectures with an emphasis on automated deployment systems.

  • Demonstrated experience meeting federal compliance requirements for information systems.

  • Knowledge of project management principles to set project scope, schedule, priorities, and deliverables

  • Active DOE Q/TS/SCI clearance
