Los Alamos National Laboratory Business Intelligence Developer (Software Developer 2/3) in Los Alamos, New Mexico
What You Will Do
This position will be filled at either the Software Developer 2/3 level, depending on the skills and experience of the selected candidate.
As a member of our Software Development staff in the Software Applications and Engineering Group (SAE-3), you will have the opportunity to work and grow in an exciting and challenging environment dedicated to delivering quality software using modern technologies. As part of our diverse multidisciplinary team, you will have the opportunity to grow in the areas of programming, software architecture, User Experience design (UX), Agile software development, customer support, and software engineering.
To support LANL’s national security missions, our Software Developers are responsible for:
Working closely with end-users on requirements gathering and delivering of secure and quality web-based applications.
Configure, automate, maintain, and document continuously integrated product builds and deployments.
Research new technologies and tools; incorporate their usage into new products and services.
Communicate and collaborate cross-functionally, and work well in a product focused team environment.
Develop, implement and maintain software applications. Build new capabilities and refactor existing code of applications.
We are looking for a team player that can learn our system, support our customers, and provide ideas and solutions to improve what we have.
About this position
Work with an internal customer as a combination data engineer and dashboard developer. Through data and presentation, provide the customer with business intelligence to help the Lab achieve its mission goals. The job entails moving data from the LANL's Oracle data warehouse and other sources into a small SQL Server data mart, manipulating the data as needed, and using MicroStrategy to present interactive dashboards to the end user. You'll get to work closely with the customer to identify evolving requirements, and then creatively engineer solutions to aid with pattern discovery and management decision making.

About a Software Developer 2 ($77,300-$126,000)
The Software Developer 2 is a seasoned, experienced professional with a full understanding of a specialized information technology (IT) field plus working knowledge of other related IT fields.
About a Software Developer 3 ($94,100 - $155,700)
In addition to the lower level, the Software Developer 3 has wide-ranging experience, uses professional concepts and company objectives to resolve complex issues in creative and effective ways
What You Need
Minimum Job Requirements:
Experience providing solutions for customers.
Experience designing, developing, modifying, testing, debugging and evaluating software to meet user requirements.
Experience working directly with the customer to gather and document user requirements.
Experience recommending sound, practical solutions to complex issues.
Experience working with data to provide business intelligence.
Experience writing SQL queries.
Experience with SQL Server.
Experience with MicroStrategy business intelligence tool, or other business intelligence tool.
Applicants must have the ability to obtain and maintain DOE clearances, which normally requires US citizenship.
Software Developer 2 Education Required: Position typically requires a bachelor’s degree and a minimum five years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Additional Job Requirements for Software Developer 3:
In addition to the requirements outlined above, qualification at the higher level requires:
Experience arranging, preparing and conducting meetings, workshops and presentations.
Demonstrated experience providing solutions to complex customer requirements.
Extensive Experience with MicroStrategy business intelligence tool, or other business intelligence tool.
Experience with moving data through a SQL Server Linked Server.
Experience developing SQL Server stored procedures.
Software Developer 3 Education Required: Position typically requires a bachelor’s degree and a minimum eight years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. At this level, post graduate course work may be desirable.
Experience with Agile concepts such as Scrum or Kanban.
Experience with Jira, Remedy, ServiceNow, or other work tracking system.

Location: This position will be part of the Laboratory’s Telework Pilot and may work from a remote/home location within a two-hour ground commute of the Laboratory. Employee participation in the Telework Pilot may be shortened or extended at the manager’s discretion. Ability to report on-site is a must for this position.

for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance which requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon position, additional authorization to access nuclear weapons information may be required that may or may not be available to dual citizens depending upon the circumstances.
Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. SeeDOE Order 472.2 for additional information.
New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing.
Regular position: Term status Laboratory employees applying for regular-status positions are converted to regular status.
