Los Alamos National Laboratory Actinide-Molten Salt Electrochemistry Postdoc in Los Alamos, New Mexico
What You Will Do
The Inorganic, Isotope, and Actinide Chemistry (C-IIAC) Group is seeking outstanding candidates for a postdoctoral position on an actinide-molten salt research team. Work will focus on applying electrochemical methods to the study of chemical speciation and corrosion kinetics in actinide-molten salt systems. Primary goals of this work are to gain further insight into the influence of actinides on corrosion in molten salt, and into chemical speciation in these systems. In pursuit of these goals, the postdoctoral researcher will plan and perform experiments, and design and build experimental apparatus. The postdoctoral researcher will also prepare internal research reports, give oral presentations on results both on site and at workshops, working groups, and conferences; and prepare manuscripts for publication.
What You Need
Minimum Job Requirements:
An experimental background and a strong publication record in inorganic chemistry, chemical engineering, materials science, or closely allied discipline
Experience in electrochemistry
Working knowledge of fundamental electrochemical theory
Experience in solid-state/materials analytical techniques, e.g. SEM, EDX, XRD, Raman, XPS, etc.
Excellent communication and language skills, as evidenced by publications and the cover letter
For full consideration, applications must include a cover letter addressing each of the minimum and desired requirements, and a CV.
Creativity and independence to solve problems and conduct research with minimal supervision
Ability to obtain a Q-clearance, which normally requires US Citizenship
Education/Experience : A Ph.D. in chemistry, chemical engineering, materials science, materials engineering, or a closely allied discipline completed within the last five years is required at or near the time of hire.
Experienced with empirical electrochemical experiments
Electrochemical cell design (reference electrode, inert anode, etc.)
Experience with high temperature (> 550°C) chemical reactions
Molten salt or ionic liquid reaction chemistry experience
Experience handling air-sensitive materials/glovebox work
Experience with solid state synthesis
Experience with fabrication techniques such as machining, soldering, etc.
Experience in corrosion chemistry
Note to Applicants:
For full consideration, applications must include a cover letter addressing each of the minimum and desired requirements, and a CV. For additional technical inquiries, contact Marisa Monreal at firstname.lastname@example.org.
