Job Information

Los Alamos National Laboratory Accelerator Physics Postdoc in Los Alamos, New Mexico

What You Will Do

The DARHT Physics Team within the J-6 group at Los Alamos National Laboratory is seeking outstanding candidates for a postdoctoral position in Accelerator Physics. You will be part of a collaboration investigating intense relativistic electron beam production, acceleration, and utilization as an intense x-ray source with a focus on beam dynamics and diagnosis. These studies necessarily bridge the fields of beam and plasma physics, electrodynamics, and hydrodynamics.

The successful candidate will be applying a range of theoretical, computational, and experimental techniques to the study of these complex systems. Experience with multiple diagnostic methods for intense electron beams and plasma physics is highly desired.

This position is for a 2-year term (with potential for conversion to staff and/or possible one year extension).

The successful candidate will:

  • Collaborate with a team which includes scientists, engineers, technicians, postdocs and students.

  • Design and execute experimental studies with high-current, relativistic electrons beams.

  • Perform data analysis and document results.

  • Learn and utilize beam transport computer programs.

  • Publish in journals and present work at international conferences.

What You Need

Minimum Job Requirements:

Publication Record

Strong publication record in one or more of the following areas: plasma physics, charge particle beams, diagnostic methods and interpretation, numerical methods for data analysis, or hydrodynamics.

Strong communication and language skills, as evidenced by peer reviewed publications, presentations at conferences and/or workshops, and the cover letter.

Must be able to collaborate well with all levels of staff and management.

Ph. D. in Physics, Engineering or similar field completed within the past five years or soon to be completed.

Desired Qualifications:

Related Experiments

Documented record of successful design, implementation, execution, data analysis, and interpretation for accelerator related experiments.

Note to Applicants:

Please submit a detailed cover letter with your resume addressing all required and desired skills. (Please save cover letter with job number and name).
